one more surgery down

Today we had another surgery to assess her arm. As far as we know right now everything looks good, clean and is healing nicely. The surgeon said the tissue is growing like it should and hopefully (cross you fingers) next week they will be able to close it up with a skin graft.

According to the surgeon, where they take the skin graft is going to hurt more then where they put it on her arm....Go figure.

She is still amazing me with her questions and bravery, but on the flip side girlfriend is getting used to all the attention, gifts, balloons, cards, flowers, and well wishes, what a luck girl.

Thank you to everyone for all the support, prayers, positive thoughts, and good vibes, we will take them all.

To answer a few questions, Braydon and Lila saw the entire thing. Braydon even tried to pull her hand out. They are doing well. We have been talking about it with them when we can so that they know it won't happen to them and Braydon did everything right in trying to pull her hand out and by running to get us.

Brandon's grandpa is doing well also. He feels so bad and I'm sure very traumatized as well. We keep him in our thoughts everyday.

Me I'm doing good. I'm trying to keep every ones schedules as close to the same as possible. Braydon went to his little job yesterday and will go back to taek won do tomorrow. So we are out doing things and also showing Ellie that life isn't going to change too much, we will still do all the things we used to do, just a bit different. i don't want her to feel like a victim and I don't want the other two to be resentful of her is things have to be on hold for too long for them.
Hope fully next week the wound will be closed and all surgeries will be done.

Again, Thank you to everyone for your kind words, they really mean a lot to us right now.

Soon I will have to post all the  funny things that Ellie has said, but I keep running out of time. This accident has not hindered her sense of humor at all....maybe even made her a bit more sassy...OH, GREAT!!

I got here through a link on Ronda's blog. I am so sorry to read about your sweet, brave Ellie. I will lift her up in prayer. My father lost his arm in farm machinery when he was 16 years old. He was my hero. He could do everything any other man could do... AND THEN SOME. My favorite memory as a kid was my dad pinching my finger (at my request) with his prosthetic hand.

I pray that Ellie heals quickly, without infection, and gets acclimated to her "new normal".

I am so glad to hear things are going to so well and that her surgeries may end sooner than expected. She is looking good!
The graft is more painful, Madeline had bones removed, pins in, and skin seperation, but the the graft was the most irritating to her under her casts. There is more pain at the site of the graft removal and ITCHING where the graft is placed and is healing. I was so grateful for the casts (some older children they just put the gauze type) because I know she would have had to get at it to scratch!
When they remove the bandage the first time after the graft don't be shocked--it will look a lot worse than it is and also be prepared for the lovely odor that comes along with that type of wound.
Linda, you are right on. Keep it as normal as possible; life goes on. There are so many parents that make the child the victim and feel sorry for them, it does not help and really causes the reverse of what you want. Ellie is a strong girl and as she is already showing you she is going to be just fine. Of course there will be moments and times the tears will flow (usually due to others comments, not her own capabilities), but I know you will all work through them.
Best thoughts and wishes to you all!

I can't believe she is smiling. Just shows her brave spirit. I would be a puddle of mess or drugs.

What a beautiful smile. If there is a way I would love to send her a gift. If you or anyone has time, please e-mail me at bdm9370 at yahoo dot com. Thanks, Beverly

Linda, I'm so happy to see Ellie's smiling face and read that life is returning to some semblance of normal for all of you. I hope Ellie's final surgery is quick and successful and her recovery isn't too painful. It's so hard to see our babies in pain! My heart aches just thinking about it.

Please tell Ellie that she has lots of people who care about her and think about her (and her whole family too!).

Hugs,

Donna

Thanks for posting the update. Ellie has been on our minds constantly the last few days.

I don't know if you have had time to look at blogs lately, but we've been posting a series I call "One Handed Wednesday" of youtube videos of people doing amazing things with one hand - something that is a daily part of our lives.

Kai and Shen's limb differences are from birth so they seem easier to accept as just part of who they are. In time Ellie's new one-handedness will fade in significance too and will not matter in terms of who she is - a strong and beautiful girl.

Linda,

Leave for China Friday to go with my sister as she gets my second born-in-China niece. Elizabeth is a 19 month old special needs child in Jiangxi. We've been waiting 8.5months for travel since my sis got her PA!

Will continue to keep your whole family in my prayers.
